    Dedicated to Karl Jordan

Charles Rothschild gave his collection of parasitic insects, the majority being fleas, to the British Museum in 1913. A condition of the bequest was that they be catalogued, which his daughter Miriam has helped fulfil. In a foreword she provides a biography of Charles, describing his interest in entomology and his working partnership with Karl Jordan. She has also compiled a glossary, an introduction explaining the scope and methods of the catalogue, and selected the specimens to be photographed. Hopkins wrote the main body of the work, being detailed descriptions of around 1,350 species and sub-species contained within the 22,000 specimens of the collection.
